I’m probably going to change the calves a little. The only thing I would add to the existing geometry would be to chamfer the thighs/knees a little and add vents between the toes. The torso is gonna be a doosey with all the vents and different parts, but I’m gonna break down what i can and hopefully come out with a highly detailed product at the end. This will also give me an excuse to get back into texturing. I only plan on making a VERY simple rig to setup posing.

My flatwork for my website is in need of an update!

The above thumbnail is from an assignment I had to turn in today. There’s still much left to do in it, but it’s plenty presentable for class purposes. I still need to touch up the lighting and textures, and add Tansen into it (I have a rough of her slumped over the trunk…

Oh yeah, I meant to post some concepts of her back in April. Oops!

1 2 3 4

In the first one, I got too carried away and gave her Jessan’s lanky proportions. Tansen isn’t supposed to be a beanpole. She’s kinda short, a more ladylike figure.

I also added a color test. I’m still working out their color palettes, as I had to for the first painting. Since the beginning, I wanted Jessan to have more cool sky colors. I used to have her hair in blue or purple, but this hasn’t set well with me lately. It’s more violet than purple now, but dark enough to still be earthy and not to warm. Tansen on the other hand has more of a fiery personality, so her palette is warmer, more venomous.

As I said, she was meant as a kind of foil, what I think I meant to say was that she is there to piss Jessan off most of the time, though they’ve been friends for years. Since they trained together, I wanted them to have uniforms, but not be completely uniform, so her bandages are placed differently (Tansen does need a sarashi for fighting, as opposed to Jessan who is quite flat.)

1 2 3 4

Here are some other concepts that I have to ink later. Actually, I might redo #3, his legs are bugging me…

I don’t know how people can manage two jobs at once. When I come home, I want to chill out, talk on the phone and go to sleep. Perhaps even eat. So, my drawings/knitting/sculpting/painting/general whackiness/etc have taken a huge hit, leaving the commute to work and the weekends to really get anything done. It’s weird though, the less I draw, the better the drawings have been coming out. I don’t plan to make a habit of not sketching, but when I sit down to draw, I’ve been pleased with the results lately.

I was lucky to get this sketch out the other week and to vector it today.

It will be painted onto the back of my grey hoodie. Possibly tonight. And possibly will be available as an apparel design in the Hammer Store or my store.

A couple years back, I made a first set for a character design class. I liked it for a while, but I have some issues with her design: much too anime. So I did a new one…

It still ended up more anime than I wanted, but not as much as it used to. I’m playing with the idea of her culture using volcanic glass for weaponry. Up until this set, she used a katana.

This is another old character, I began drawing her back in 2000, based on a figurine that’s even older. She is from a coastal tribe who enjoys a warm wet climate. Her Mother, Elanor, is not very fleshed out at the moment, but was initially based on an old MMO character I used to roleplay. Her partner, Tansen, was created much later (late 2004) somewhat as a foil. Both will be redesigned later!

I’ve bounced a couple ideas for them lately. One being that they are just travelers, another that they became disgruntled imperial combatants once their town was conquered.
